Here you will find stories that illustrate the partnership between UNDP and the Europan Union in the field. Given that our partnership covers 140 countries and spans over a decade, these stories represent just a fraction of what we do together. They are however important as they show what difference our partnership makes in the lives of people. They show how we help empower people and support the building of resilient nations.

    85-year-old Perka Zorić lives in the village of Verići, in the area of the City of Banja Luka, sustaining herself in a shabby home by a small pension and no assistance.

  • Seamstress stitches together a secure future

    Rukhsana, 40, lives in the Malikyar village in District Haripur with her husband and four children. When her husband was laid off from a local factory, they relied on the support of their extended family. As a result, Rukhsana decided to become financially independent and started sewing clothes for her neighbours.

    Social exclusion has been recognized by the Government of Montenegro as one of major societal challenges, and its eradication has been made one of key priorities. With an aim to facilitate access of vulnerable, socially excluded groups to comprehensive, inclusive and sustainable family and community based services, the UNDP partnered with UNICEF, the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare and Ministry of Education and Sports for the project “Social Welfare and Child Care Reform – Enhancing Social Inclusion“, financed by the EU.

  • Learning to fight early marriages in Kyrgyzstan

    The number of early marriages in Kyrgyzstan still remains high. According to recent statistics, roughly 12 percent of brides in the country are under the age of 18. In the village of Shark in Southern Kyrgyzstan, UNDP and the EU, as part of their joint project, are helping one high school join the fight. To keep girls longer in school and thus prevent them from early marriage, the school has created sewing, cooking, and computer classes in addition to their regular curriculum.

    Local administration reform initiatives of Turkey stands in the midst of the robust reform agenda of the Government of Turkey, with an aim of strengthening the basis for citizen-centered service delivery with an increased responsiveness to the expectations and needs of the disadvantaged groups, improved efficiency, effectiveness, transparency and accountability in the public administration system, last but not least for reinforced grounds for pluralistic and participatory democratic order.
