Launch of African Human Development Report & 16 Days of Activism
UNDP Namibia together with the First Lady of Namibia and in partnership with the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare, launched the African Human Development Report and the 16 Days of Activism campaign to end gender based violence.
This year UNDP hosted the report launch together with more than 500 community members from the Moses Garoeb Constituency under the theme:"Accelerating Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment in Africa".
Members of the diplomatic corps, members of parliament, the private sector and UN Staff joined community members in the march to End Violence against Women and Girls under the theme: "From Peace in the Home to Peace in the World: Make Education Safe for All!"
Madam Monica Geingos, The First Lady of Namibia in her statement highlighted that for a community to thrive and life peacefully we need to 'Harambee at home', meaning to take care of one another in the home, before we can help those outside.
UNDP Resident Representative to Namibia Kiki Gbeho stressed that, Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women is a prerequisite for the advancement and well-being of individuals, families, communities and countries.
