Visit to Dundee Precious Metals Tsumeb, Tsumeb Smelters

A committee meeting of Namibian ministers led by the minister of Environment and Tourism, Hon. Pohamba Shifeta was held with Dundee Precious Metals Tsumeb (DPMT) management in Tsumeb on Thursday, 27 August 2015. The meeting was in response to a Health and Environment Audit of DPMT following health concerns raised by the public. DPMT is a copper-processing company that has taken over Tsumeb Smelters and its main function is to  mine and produce copper. The meeting was aimed at bringing together government and private sector to review progress in terms of finding solutions to concerns raised by the local population.

Women in Engineering: Barcelona Plaatjies (Second from right front row) is a young Namibian woman who is employed as the Acid Plant Manager at DPMT. Barcelona has been in the mining industry for about 7 years, has worked at other mining companies in Namibia and is a true inspiration to young female Namibians in a male-dominated industry.
